Lula and Heath's Bathroom Renovation
When it comes to designing spaces for my girls, I aim for a blend of individuality and functionality. Heath and Lula, my daughters, had shared a large jack-and-jill bathroom for years. While the space served them well when they were younger, they were ready for their own private bathrooms and—let’s be real—some much-needed closet space. Tommy, my husband and construction mastermind, and I teamed up once again to create two distinct, personality-packed bathrooms that meet each girl’s needs while capturing their unique styles.
The Challenge: Dividing and Defining Spaces
Originally, Lula and Heath’s shared bathroom was spacious but lacked the kind of storage and separation they both wanted as young adults. The goal was simple but challenging: carve out two separate, fully functional bathrooms and add storage without making either space feel cramped. With Tommy’s technical expertise in reimagining floor plans and my design vision, we created layouts that balanced practicality and style. Now, each bathroom reflects each girl’s personality—from the color scheme down to the fixtures.
Bringing in the Dream Team
I’m a firm believer in surrounding myself with people who know their craft, and Kerry at European Kitchen & Bath Works was an absolute godsend. With her guidance, we selected all the plumbing and fixtures to perfectly complement each space. Kerry has this incredible way of making the selection process seamless—she really understands how to elevate both function and beauty in a bathroom design. Her experience and eye for detail helped us pull everything together, and it was so much fun seeing the transformation come to life.
Lula's Bathroom: Bold, Pink, and Playful
Lula is my pink girl all the way. She’s my girlie girl, my youngest, but she’s always been an old soul since birth! When she showed me a pin on Pinterest of a bathroom with tile that flowed from wall to floor, I knew we had to go for it. We found stunning pink and white tiles, and I ran them in stripes up the walls and across the floor to give the room a seamless, bold look that’s so Lula.
And let’s talk about color-drenching! I leaned into the pink theme even more by painting the walls and trim all in shades of dusty blush. (I actually drew inspiration for the painted walls from a dear client’s lake house in North Carolina—those spaces really influenced the vibe here.) The continuity and warmth make it feel so inviting, playful, and unmistakably Lula.
Finding tile that works for both floor and wall use was a challenge, and in my pursuit of perfection, we ended up retiling the bathroom four times! But every time I step into this space, I know it was worth it. The chic vanity ties the whole room together with a minimalist touch that complements Lula’s personality. This bathroom feels like a boutique hotel—playful yet polished, and 100% her.
Heath's Bathroom: Cool, Calm, and Creative
Heath’s space needed to feel more laid-back, in line with her sweet and spunky personality. She’s my blue-and-green girl, and she’s insanely creative (an advertising major at the University of South Carolina—go Gamecocks!). Blue and marble were our starting points, setting a serene, cool palette that Heath loves. I mixed metals in her fixtures to add some visual interest, and the curved glass above the tub was a must-have feature, bringing a unique, modern touch.
Heath’s vanity offers plenty of storage for her sundries and skincare essentials. And let’s talk about that rug! It brings a lively burst of color that reflects Heath’s artistic spirit without overpowering the room’s serene vibe. Her bathroom is the perfect balance of relaxed and refined, just like her.
I’m thinking about doing something fun with paint in here, too—possibly a mural by Lindsey McCord Crafter (@lindseycrafterart), a super talented artist and friend who did my branding for HARVIN. Lindsey might be painting something that incorporates blues and greens, tying in the tones from the leopard art piece that hangs between the tub and vanity. Heath’s space is calming yet quirky, perfect for her laid-back, artistic vibe.
Final Touches: Making the Spaces Their Own
Both Lula and Heath’s bathrooms now feel like personal sanctuaries. To add those final custom touches, I found towels at HomeGoods and had my embroiderer, (Name Here) add each girl’s monogram. It’s the little details that make these rooms feel special and uniquely theirs.
And let’s not forget the bath salts! Since this is the only bath in the house, I’ve got a stash of Flewd bath salts that I swear by—they’re a lifesaver for anxiety, insomnia, or stress. Lula and Heath are well-stocked with them for their own bath rituals. (Linking to them below in case you’re curious!)
Ready to Get Inspired?
This project is one of my favorites, not only because of the end result but because it was such a joy to design spaces that reflect my daughters' personalities. Whether you’re into Lula’s bold stripes or Heath’s cool blues, these bathrooms show how a little inspiration (and a lot of patience with tile!) can make all the difference.
