The Revival of 1427 Emory Road
When we first set foot inside 1427 Emory Road, it was clear that this 1929 Mediterranean home had seen better days. Cluttered, weathered, and hidden beneath years of neglect, this once-majestic property in Historic Druid Hills had lost its luster. But beneath the layers of dust and disarray, we saw potential. With our design vision and a lot of elbow grease, we transformed this tired property into an entertainer’s paradise, preserving its original charm while reimagining it for modern living.
Welcoming Warmth
Once cramped and closed off, the main level now offers an open flow that celebrates connection and conversation. Black iron windows and doors bring a bold, timeless touch, framing the space and flooding it with natural light. The living room’s original fireplace—a striking geometric stone feature—was one of the first things we noticed and knew we had to keep. It’s a beautiful, unique focal point that connects the room to the home’s storied past. Now, with a seamless flow to the dining room and the open chef’s kitchen, the living space is a testament to blending the old with the new, where gatherings can be both intimate and grand. We wanted every detail to reflect a sense of warmth and welcome, from the curated finishes to the textures that echo the home's Mediterranean roots.
A Chef’s Kitchen with Character
The heart of the home, the kitchen, was designed with both form and function in mind. We installed custom cabinetry and high-end appliances to create a true chef’s kitchen that balances beauty with usability. The centerpiece—a large, polished island—offers plenty of prep space, as well as a gathering spot for family and friends. By embracing both modern finishes and vintage-inspired elements, this kitchen respects the past while fully embracing today’s lifestyle.
Indoor-Outdoor Living
In restoring the grounds, we aimed to create a sense of harmony between indoor and outdoor spaces. A beautiful side terrace and a cozy back porch now extend from the main level, leading into a professionally landscaped garden where greenery and thoughtful design invite quiet reflection. We brought new life to the property’s outdoor spaces, transforming them into tranquil escapes and ideal settings for entertaining under the open sky.
A Private Upstairs Oasis
The upper level now serves as a peaceful retreat. The primary suite, with its spa-like bathroom and custom closets, offers a private oasis where history and luxury meet. We included a hidden panel for the laundry, a playful touch that keeps functionality discreet yet accessible. Two additional bedrooms and a bright hall bathroom complete this floor, offering ample space for family or guests, each room exuding character and sophistication through carefully chosen designer finishes.
One of our favorite preserved details is the original stairway, with its characteristic rails and balusters. These classic features anchor the home’s historic charm, drawing the eye up toward the light-drenched second floor and serving as a beautiful reminder of the home’s enduring craftsmanship.
A Light-Filled Family Hub
The lower level is now a vibrant gathering area, with a cozy family room that opens up to the rest of the home. Here, we embraced an airy design, allowing light to spill into the previously dim space and highlight its soft, neutral tones. This level also features an additional bedroom and bathroom, perfect for guests or as a private space for family members.
Every corner of 1427 Emory Road tells a story of transformation, vision, and respect for the history that came before. With each renovation, our goal is to preserve the spirit of a space while breathing new life into it. This project allowed us to bring together the beauty of classic Mediterranean design with a fresh, modern perspective, creating a home that’s ready to make new memories for years to come.
